Directed by Arun Matheswaran (Rocky, Saani Kaayidham, Captain Miller). Starring Lokesh Kanagaraj (in his full-fledged acting debut) as Devadas, Wamiqa Gabbi as Chandra, and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy.

This is a dark, stylised romantic action thriller that reimagines the classic Devdas story in a contemporary underworld setting. Devadas is a rebel on the run after a violent past. Chandra is forced into the same dangerous world. Their alliance is built on passion, bloodshed, and survival. The trailer shows intense police chases, stolen weapons, revenge killings, and a turbulent love story that demands loyalty tests and violence.

Arun Matheswaran’s signature visual language — heavy use of colour, slow-motion, atmospheric lighting — is expected to dominate. Anirudh Ravichander’s music should amplify the emotional and action peaks. Lokesh Kanagaraj’s transition from director to lead actor is the biggest talking point; early looks suggest a raw, intense screen presence rather than conventional heroism.

Strengths expected: Strong visual style, chemistry between Lokesh and Wamiqa, gritty tone, and a fresh take on a familiar tragic romance. Potential issues: Heavy violence (it has already received an ‘A’ certificate), possible pacing problems if the emotional core is underdeveloped, and the risk of style overpowering substance. Overall expectation: A stylish, intense, adult-oriented film that could stand out if the writing matches the visuals. Not a mass commercial entertainer — more of a dark romantic crime drama.
