Introduction

Jana Nayagan is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language political action thriller directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions. The film stars Vijay in his final acting role before officially entering politics, alongside Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol. The story is expected to explore themes of democracy, justice and political transformation, presented in a grand commercial format designed around Vijay’s screen persona.
The film is scheduled for theatrical release on 9 January 2026 in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada.

Production Details

Development

Jana Nayagan marks Vijay’s last film before his political entry and his first collaboration with director H. Vinoth.
The film was initially referred to as Thalapathy 69, officially announced in September 2024, and titled Jana Nayagan in January 2025.

Vinoth had earlier written the script for Kamal Haasan’s 233rd film, which was delayed due to Indian 2 and Indian 3. Vijay later accepted the script with a record ₹275 crore remuneration.
KVN Productions funded the film as their first Tamil project, with a total budget of around ₹300 crore.

Casting

Principal photography began on 5 October 2024 in Chennai.

The first look poster was released on 26 January 2025, showcasing Vijay taking a selfie — inspired by his real-life Neyveli selfie during Master (2020).
A 65-second glimpse released on 22 June 2025 became the most-viewed Tamil glimpse in 24 hours with 32.4M+ views.

The Telugu version is titled Jana Nayakudu.
